A Global organisation supplying Business and Financial information, Financial Markets knowledge and Technology solutions seek an experienced HR Manager to join a Global division within their London offices on a Fixed Term basis.

Position Overview:

The role is dedicated to providing specific consultative and operational support to management teams and line managers related to the people and organization issues impacting their business unit within a specific country. You will be responsible for the execution of country specific HR operational plans and HR roadmap for the business units, working with Global HR Business partners, specialist COEs and HR Operations to deliver HR solutions.

• Lead regional level HR activity (organisation design, appointments, reductions in force) for the business unit in support of the company integration plan.
• Work with local Business Unit management teams to translate business needs into HR requirements and working environment
• Identify the region level organisational capabilities required to support the execution of the business strategy
• Acts as a consultant most frequently on issues related to change management, talent management, employee engagement, performance management, employee relations
• Execute on all regional related HRM programs/HR Roadmap including leadership development, PMAT, talent management, workforce planning, compensation planning, organization development, Reward & Recognition and Awards of Excellence
• Lead local employee relations issues and legal investigations on behalf of the business
• Responsible for implementing initiatives at the regional business unit level and may support the design of specialized or customized training, communications, and recruiting
• Lead the regional level workforce planning and effectively manage the staffing process to ensure talent needs and diversity considerations are fulfilled
• "Broker" of services between specialized internal groups (eg Reward) and the business;
• Develop close relationships with the Ask HR function to determine and implement the relevant operating model (distribution of work) for the local business unit
• Work with regional HR Operations group to ensure effective and aligned delivery of operational HR service
• Partner with business to implement the a talent signature process, align to talent requirements within respective local units
• Implement region level engagement strategy/plan using employee feedback (eg employee surveys, focus groups, etc).
• Partner with management teams to build capability of managers, including implementation of change management and team effectiveness solutions
• Counsel managers on compensation related decisions and the Company's pay for performance philosophy
• Work with internal communications to ensure alignment between internal communications and local people strategy
• Guide the region level business units through major change initiatives, including adoption of new processes/technology and reduction in force
• Ensure compliance and alignment of HR actions, policies and procedures with the overall control environment within the region

Essential skills, knowledge and experience

• HR generalist background or HR specialist with experience in relevant disciplines
• Robust experience in managing organisational change (OD, appointments, reduction in force)
• Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with business and HR
• Collaborative - able to operate effectively within Matrix environment and work in partnership HR Operations
• Ability to give feedback and coach business managers and be a role model for business managers in terms of managing change

Desired Skills, knowledge and experience

• Sound knowledge of the business and ability to work with business to establish HR actions and metrics to meet strategic objectives

Another day, another bit of news out of Mountain View. Stereoscopic 3D videos have been on YouTube for nearly three years, and since last year, the site has given viewers the option to transform "short-form" 2D content to 3D -- with a single click on the settings bar, that is. Today, the beta feature comes to 1080p videos, meaning you'll now be able to watch your favorite Phillip DeFranco and Shay Carl vlogs with extra chromatic impact in full HD. YouTube notes that it's "constantly improving the underlying conversion technology," which figures out how to simulate the effect based on characteristics of the video itself and true 3D videos uploaded to the site. We'd say there's still something slightly amiss about using folding blue and red glasses to watch two-dimensional HD video in faux anaglyph 3D, but you can make the call for yourself by reading up about the magic at the source link below.

Prostate Cancer ? Bill Walker

Despite claiming the lives of two men every day in Scotland, prostate cancer ? the most common cancer among men ? receives less media attention and funding than many other major cancers.

Lack of public awareness no doubt goes a long way to explain why a recent survey found that 85 per cent of suffers experienced symptoms for more than a month before contacting a health professional, with 41 per cent waiting more than a year.

I have supported the Prostate Cancer Charity for some time and was pleased to sign The Pledge for Prostate Cancer at Parliament, a call for reduced inequalities in treatment and improved prostate cancer services across Scotland.

The Charity has now compiled a draft set of standards for prostate cancer care and is inviting feedback from men affected by the disease, as well as partners and healthcare professionals. Once the standards are finalised, the Charity will ask the Scottish Government to implement them across the country.

The first YouTube Space Lab contest has announced its winners. Young people entered by creating a short video of their idea for an experiment to be done in space. I was a judge.

One of the two winners, eighteen-year-old Amr Mohamed of Egypt told me about his idea to have jumping spiders hunt their prey in orbit:

?So I was reading an article about animals that have been in space, and there was the orb weavers. I thought that not all the spiders hunt the same way. Thus came the idea to send jumping spiders?they can adjust their trajectory here on earth to compensate for gravity. Well, they can realize that they don?t have to compensate for gravity anymore.?

Amr got his idea and made his video in just one day. His experiment will actually be done on the International Space Station.

AM: ?And it?s going to be the first time in history for an animal to change its way of hunting to zero-gravity environments.?

MD: ?While I was judging I saw it and I really enjoyed the idea.?

AM: ?Thank you very much.?

The biggest threats to U.S. national security are the nation's domestic policies and not Iran, China, North Korea or Russia says Richard Haass, the president of the Council on Foreign Relations.

"What we do to improve our schools, our infrastructure, what we do to reduce the budget deficit?this is going to be critical in years and decades ahead," Haass says in an interview with The Daily Ticker. "The most important national security question for the coming year is actually the domestic set of issues that involves the economy."

A Council on Foreign Relations Task Force released a report last month that found the nation's ailing public school system "threatens the country's ability to thrive in a global economy and maintain its leadership role" and "educational failure puts the United States' future economic prosperity, global position, and physical safety at risk."

Haass says these policy failures and intransigence by lawmakers to seriously and vigorously tackle the looming budget crisis portends a weaker U.S. in an increasingly competitive global economy.

"The United States right now has put itself in a position of some vulnerability," he says. "We're vulnerable to the inflows of dollars, we're vulnerable on the energy front, and the challenge for the United States in the national security realm is to do things that reduce our vulnerability to the decisions and behaviors be it foreign governments or markets."

Entitlement reform, typically a "third rail in American politics," will be the top priority after the November election, regardless of who wins the White House, says Haass. The nation's current fiscal situation cannot be reversed without changes to these entitlement programs, but it's "unrealistic to look to campaign positions as a serious guide" to how the 2013 White House will fix these critical budgetary obstacles.

Budget proposals put forth by both President Obama and Republican Congressman Paul Ryan address Medicare and Medicaid spending. But there "has to be bipartisan governance moving forward" for any reform to happen, Haass says.
